Getting Started

How do I get started with Photo Clean?

Getting started is straightforward:

  1. Open Photo Clean on your iPhone.
  2. When prompted, grant access to your Photos library. For the best experience, select Full Access.
  3. Tap any category on the main screen — Duplicate Photos, Similar Photos, Screenshots, or Large Videos — to scan and review that category.

Photo Clean will scan your library and show you results to review. You choose what to keep and what to remove.

What is Photo Clean?

Photo Clean is an iPhone app that helps you find clutter in your photo library. It identifies:

  • Duplicate Photos — identical copies of the same photo
  • Similar Photos — near-duplicate shots you may want to trim down
  • Screenshots — all your screenshots in one place for easy review
  • Large Videos — videos sorted by size so you can see what's taking up the most space

All processing happens on your device. Photo Clean doesn't upload your photos to any server, and no account is required.

How do I grant Photos access?

Photo Clean needs access to your Photos library to scan for duplicates, similar photos, screenshots, and large videos.

To grant or change access:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Photos.
  4. Find Photo Clean in the list and tap it.
  5. Select Full Access for the best results. If you select "Limited Access," Photo Clean can only scan the photos you specifically select.

Common Questions

Why does Photo Clean need access to my photos?

Photo Clean needs to read your photo library in order to scan and identify duplicates, similar photos, screenshots, and large videos. Without access to your photos, the app cannot provide its core features.

All analysis is done on your device — your photos are not uploaded to any server.

Are my photos uploaded to the cloud?

No. Photo Clean processes your photos and videos directly on your iPhone. Your photos are never uploaded to our servers for analysis. Everything happens locally on your device.

Does Photo Clean automatically delete photos?

No. Photo Clean never deletes photos without your explicit action. You review results and choose what to remove. Deleted photos go to your iPhone's Recently Deleted album, where they stay for 30 days before permanent deletion — giving you a safety net to recover anything you deleted by mistake.

Does Photo Clean require an account?

No. Photo Clean does not require you to create an account or sign in to use the app. You can start scanning your photo library immediately after granting Photos access.

Troubleshooting

Photo Clean isn't finding duplicates

If Photo Clean isn't showing duplicates, check the following:

  • Photos access: Make sure Photo Clean has Full Access to your Photos library. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Photo Clean, and select Full Access. If you've granted Limited Access, Photo Clean can only see the photos you manually selected.
  • Library content: If your library genuinely has no exact duplicates, the Duplicate Photos section will show no results. Try the Similar Photos category, which may surface near-duplicate shots.
  • App refresh: Close Photo Clean fully and reopen it, then try scanning again.
The app seems slow or scanning takes a long time

Scanning a large photo library takes time, especially on the first scan. Libraries with thousands of photos and videos require more processing. This is normal — the scan runs on your device and the time depends on library size.

Make sure your iPhone has sufficient battery or is plugged in during a large scan. Avoid switching away from the app mid-scan.

I can't see my photos in the app

If Photo Clean isn't showing your photos or is showing a limited selection:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Photo Clean.
  2. Check the access level. If it says "Limited Access" or "None," change it to Full Access.
  3. Return to Photo Clean and try again.

Without Full Access, Photo Clean can only access photos you've specifically selected — not your full library.

Purchases

How do I restore my purchase?

If you've previously purchased Photo Clean's premium features and need to restore your purchase on the same or a new device:

  1. Make sure you're signed in to your iPhone with the same Apple ID you used to make the original purchase.
  2. Open Photo Clean.
  3. Look for a Restore Purchase option in the app's settings or on the main screen.
  4. Tap it to restore your purchase.

In-app purchases on the App Store are tied to your Apple ID and can be restored at no charge on any device using the same Apple ID.

What is included in the premium version?

The premium version of Photo Clean unlocks full access to all features without limits, so you can review and clean your entire photo library.

For specific details about what's included in the current version, see the App Store listing for Photo Clean.
